Pop-Tarts Bowling
Year-end Elders Quorum Activity for Shoal Creek Brethren
Rosemary Laufer, Stake Historian (Shoal Creek Valley Ward)
On Saturday December 27, 2025, 20 individuals gathered together for fun and food in the first and final quorum activity of 2025. Because many in the ward are BYU fans, the quorum presidency decided to celebrate the BYU football team’s participation in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.
The EQ budget provided pizza and drinks for all and the game provided a lot of excitement as well, including a very late comeback win by BYU (25 against Georgia Tech’s 21). It was a come-and-go event and not everyone stayed for the entire game, but the most enjoyable part of the activity was the great time we had visiting and getting to know each other better. Jake Buckallew, a football coach by profession, was very valuable in his behind-the-scenes football insight!
A special addition was the presence of some of our deaf members, Reginald Dillard and Ricky Washington, who were accompanied and assisted by Cynthia Buxton and Chelsea Reeve. Two ASL missionaries (Elders Porter and Slade) were given special permission by their mission president to attend for an hour.
Besides those previously mentioned, others in attendance included the full Elders Quorum Presidency (Sean Foley, Scott Morris, Brett Hansen, and Isaiah Halsey), three Trumans (Chad, Spencer, and Braden), Mark Nye, and Abe Korb.
It was a great activity and the presidency decided to make sure we don’t wait until the last week of 2026 to hold the next one!
