Virginia Babcock, Emergency Preparation Committee (Smithville Lake Ward)

Spring and Summer often gets stormy. What storms or disasters could be heading your way? Our focus today is Go-Bags and comes from Mike Mundy (San Rafael Branch). If you had to abandon your home now, today, what do you take with you?
From Mike:
I’ve been asked for help figuring out what should go in the go-bag. It’s good to have a reasonable scenario in mind or you’ll never stop packing. Cast off the idea of surviving off grid in the wilderness, living off the land & shooting your way out.
Consider packing for this situation: You have to leave your home & walk to a gathering place in the rain. You may be there two nights & three days before you can get back into your home. So, you need to provide, wear & carry your own:
- Poncho, coat, walking shoes
- Fresh clothes & shoes
- Toiletries & meds & first aide
- Shelter for privacy & storage of your stuff
- Sleeping accessories
- Food, mess kit & means to heat some meals.
- Means to purify water.
- Ability to make minor repairs
- ID, Insurance & Med Info. Contacts. Local map
- Cash
- Flashlight
- Backup battery
- Whistle, Pepper spray
