Them That Honor Me, I Will Honor
Success can come when keeping covenants
Jessica Walker (North Brook Park Ward)
When I first began real estate eight years ago I made a promise to my family and my faith that I would not take any appointments on Sunday. This week, however, I was tempted.
I said no to a Sunday showing and lost a high-end client. The next day a new client called who ended up being high-end and I ended up selling a house that was worth even more than the first client I lost. God is good and will give blessings when you follow through on your commitments you made to him!
Thus far, everyone has been very respectful and it has not been detrimental to my career. In another situation, I interviewed and made it to the top two choices for a couple in a high price point relocating to Kansas City. They were coming to town on the weekend and needed a house ASAP. It was a referral from another agent (meaning I’d be sending him 25% of the commission as a thank you). Everything in the interview went great, until I learned they were only going to be here half of Saturday and Sunday.
I mentioned I don’t do showings on Sundays, but I was happy to video homes before they came and could also have another agent show them the Sunday houses (and I would go on Monday if they choose one of those). This was the deciding factor. They graciously told me they chose the other agent because they didn’t want the stress of choosing a house in one day. Which I completely understand.
I was disappointed but didn’t regret holding to my standards (although I did dwell on it a lot).
Well…the next day I got a call for someone coming to town wanting to see one of my lower-priced listings. They wanted to see houses on Sat. and Sun. As in the other case, I said I could do Sat. and Mon., but these clients agreed to that.
We started at the listing but very quickly discovered it wasn’t what they wanted. Through the day they got pre-approved for a drastically higher amount, and within three hours we found them the perfect house (she wanted a log cabin on acreage, he wanted lakefront – we found them both!).
Not only was this at a matching price point of the original couple, but the clients closed in two weeks and there was no referral fee to be paid out. In other words, I technically made more because I held to my standards and said no to Sunday.
I am so grateful to a Heavenly Father that has promised me blessings when I follow his commandments. Most of the time they don’t come this quickly and drastically, but no matter what, the blessings and joy always come.
I encourage you to stick to your commitments that you have made. I promise it will pay off!
