Journals: Reminders of Spiritual Experiences

A 35-year-old journal entry brings sweet reminder

Mark R. Nordgren (Shoal Creek Valley Ward)

Journal entry from Mark R. Nordgren dated Sunday, July 22, 1990.  At the request of Bishop Malan, Bishop of the Shoal Creek Valley Ward, this entry was shared in the July 27, 2025, Sacrament Meeting in conjunction with talks given by Louisa Malan, Rosemary Laufer, and Cody Allen on keeping journals and writing personal histories. This journal entry is included in Brother Nordgren’s Life History which had recently been completed.

July 22, 1990

Today in sharing time (Primary opening exercises) three talks were given by the children.  Following the talks, the remainder of sharing time was spent in song practice in preparation for a Primary sacrament meeting in September. During song practice, I had one of the most powerful spiritual experiences of my life. While we were singing the song “I Feel My Savior’s Love,” the Spirit was so strong that I could feel it penetrate my whole being. I felt as if I were in Heaven. The children sang this song as they had never sung it before. It seemed as if all the children were singing with their whole hearts. Sister Wilde, who was leading the singing, was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the way they sang it and by the Spirit that was present that her eyes filled with tears, and she could barely control her emotions. This was very unusual because she is a vocalist herself and has high expectations and is always very much in control. She couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. I think everyone there must have been surprised. Sister Wilde commented right after the song that she was deeply touched by the way they had sung the song. Words cannot describe the beauty, peace, and love experienced during this special and sacred moment.

This 35-year-old journal entry had long been forgotten until it was written into the Life History mentioned above.
