Takeaways from Conference

Norma King, Director of Media (Rush Creek Ward)

“General conference provides an opportunity to receive personal revelation as general Church leaders give counsel and direction from the Lord,” the First Presidency wrote in a letter prior to the conference.
At its close, President Nelson reinforced that message: “In this conference, the Lord has spoken to us through His servants. I urge you to study their messages.”

We appreciate these members for sharing what they learned from conference:

Rebecca Welbern (North Kansas City Ward)

Going into conference, I had questions and concerns for which I needed guidance. During this conference, I received specific guidance for me and for my calling.  A general theme I noticed was “how to prepare to return to Heavenly Father” and several outlined ways or tools that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have given us to help and enable us to return to them and to have confidence before them.

Laura Page (North Brook Ward)

As I watched General Conference this year, the profound recognition that God has a plan for each part of my life rested upon me. He had recently sent me a couple of dreams surrounding the same topic and I felt a little afraid and uncertain of their potential realization. But the morning of the first session of conference as I prayed about their significance I heard God say “you’re about to hear the answer,” and I knew that meant in conference.

A lot of conference passed without any particular impressions when finally there was a whole talk that brought the dreams straight to my mind. And was I ever shocked when a talk just a little while later also poignantly touched on my dreams. However, I am still unclear on the exact purpose and significance of the dreams I had. But that doesn’t matter much to me now because I received a clear witness that God is aware of me and my family and that He will show me more and bring greater clarity as the time of the realization of my dreams grows closer. He loves me and He loves you and He will guide each one of us according to His perfection and omniscient understanding.

Martha Odom (New Mark Ward)

For most of my life I have struggled with mental illness. This has led me to an in-depth study of the scriptures, particularly the Atonement of Christ to better understand and remember what is true. Tamara Runia’s talk in the April 2025 General Conference was my favorite as she reminded, “Heaven isn’t for people who’ve been perfect; it’s for people who’ve been forgiven, who choose Christ again and again.” I love that President Nelson told us, “We do not know the day or the hour of His coming. But I do know that the Lord is prompting me to urge us to get ready for that ‘great and dreadful day’. I want to be more diligent in filling my life with charity and virtue so I can develop more confidence before the Lord now. It’s so encouraging to hear the prophet say, “We can do this!” Hearing this fills me with hope and joy every day!

Jacob Ames, (Platte Woods Ward)

This conference brought a powerful reminder that just as love for others is the defining trait of disciples of Jesus Christ (John 13:35), a central pursuit of my discipleship should be to make it the most prominent and evident trait of my own character.
