The Liberty Missouri Stake will hold its spring stake conference on June 7 & 8, 2025, with the usual things – visiting authorities, speakers – and something new – a creation of a second stake.

In an email the Stake presidency sent out on May 25, they announced the dates of the stake conference and that the stake would be splitting into two stakes. Elder Matthew L. Carpenter, General Authority Seventy, and Elder Corbin E. Coombs, Area Seventy, will be attending the conference. In connection with this conference, and in light of the ongoing growth in the area, Elders Carpenter and Coombs will be dividing the Liberty Missouri Stake and creating a new stake in the Northland. These changes will necessitate a release of the current Liberty Missouri Stake Presidency and the calling of two new stake presidencies: one for the Liberty Missouri Stake and one for the newly created stake. More details about the new stake name, who the stake presidencies will be, and which units will be aligned to which stake will be announced during the Sunday morning session of conference.

The email invited the stake to attend the conference and pray for the current leadership and those who would soon be called to serve in both stakes.

“Please also pray to understand and accept the changes as the will of the Lord,” the stake president said via email. “We know that in announcing these changes now, it may lead to speculation and even concern. We ask that you please avoid speculating about who the new presidencies will be…Brothers and Sisters, we love you. We know the Lord is in the details of our lives. He knows us and loves us. May each of you find joy and comfort in knowing we are on the Lord’s side, and when He comes, we will be prepared.”

How are stake presidencies called?
The current stake presidency prepares a list of names, which often include the current stake presidency, high council, bishops and others, in which the visiting authorities will then interview the Saturday morning of stake conference weekend. From those interviews the Lord, through the Holy Ghost, will help the visiting authorities discern who is to be called as stake president. Once the call is accepted, that person then prays to know whom his counselors will be. These men are then interviewed and presented the call. Oftentimes wives of those called are also interviewed. Those called will be presented to the stake during the Sunday morning session of stake conference and asked for a sustaining vote.
