Over 1,300 walkers and runners registered for the 15th annual Temple Run, held September 1, 2025, near the Kansas City Temple. This year’s charity partner was Veterans Community Project.
Members and friends traveled from all over the metro and farther, to participate. The states of Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Utah, Nebraska, Arkansas and Iowa were all represented.
The 5K Kansas City Temple Run is unique in that participation is free to everyone. However, anyone wanting to be timed could pay for a timing chip. All participants were invited to donate to Veterans Community Project.
The morning started with a little rain, a free breakfast, snow cones and then the run. Medals were given in 22 age brackets with the first place winner overall being Carson Crockett from the Shoal Creek Stake. There was also the popular Kid’s Dash which had 183 registered children.
“It’s become a family tradition for us to participate in the temple run each Labor Day!” said Amanda Volk from the North Brook Park Ward. “It’s inspiring to see people of all ages participate. We love seeing friends from the area participate and hearing everyone cheer each other on. Our favorite part is being able to run around the temple! I know it takes a lot of volunteers to make this event a success and we’re grateful for all those who helped it come together.”
This was the second year for the area YSAs to plan and coordinate the event.
“I think it was awesome to see YSAs step up take responsibility for what needed to be done and execute on it, they do an awesome job,” said Jared Richardson who was the YSA Committee Coordinator. “It seemed like people were having fun. It seemed like people were engaged.”
Kate Shannon, an advisor to the Liberty Stake YSA said that supporting the Temple Run was a fun way to serve and get to know the YSA. “Walking the Temple Run with friends and my daughter felt like the perfect way to start the day. It is something I look forward to participating in every year. I love reconnecting with people!”
Marlena and Eric Johnston of the Rush Creek Ward walked the course with three of their children. “I loved being able to participate in the Temple Run with my family,” said Sister Johnston. “My kids are all different ages and abilities, but it is something we could do together. I always feel safe at this event, and I love the feeling I get walking around the temple. Seeing so many people of all ages and fitness levels out there encourages me to keep going. It’s a reminder that it’s not about being the fastest—it’s about being together, moving forward, and feeling the Spirit near the temple.”
